From 2022 to 2024, TAC was a lead subcontractor for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence (CoE), whose mission is to strengthen the peer workforce and its impact on individuals living with substance use disorders. TAC’s work in the Peer Recovery CoE included promoting state adoption of the National Model Standards for Peer Support Certification; increasing the sustainability of peer recovery support services through the use of Medicaid and other funding sources; and offering direct technical assistance to states seeking to incorporate the SAMHSA standards.
This engagement included analyzing state funding and support of recovery support systems, resulting in Optimizing Recovery Funding, Volume 2: Strategies for State Funding of Recovery Support Services.
More recently, TAC prepared States’ Alignment with SAMHSA Model Standards for Peer Support Certification Current Progress & Future Directions, a report detailing states’ progress and providing recommendations to support alignment and reciprocity.
